Michael Mina San Francisco
To be honest, I have never been to Michael Mina San Francisco for dinner, but my fiance and I go quite often for lunch. It’s an elegant and sophisticated restaurant in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District, making it perfect for those busy days in the city that should be broken up with a quiet setting and delicious meal.
The blini’s are my favorite thing there and I always forget to take a photo of them because they are so good that we just scarf them all down. We usually order two, and each order comes with two blinis.
The bread and butter topped with salt are hard to turn down. Also I’m not sure if it’s just me but I am obsessed with the gold cutlery and beautiful bread plates accented with gold.
To start, I had the Ahi Tuna Tartar with ancho chile, quail egg and pine nuts. It actually comes out in a beautiful presentation, but here the waiter has already mixed everything together for me.
For my second course I ordered the Hay-Smoked Buffalo Mozzarella. Anytime I see beets and mozzarella 99% of the time I will order it.
My 3rd course was the Lamb shoulder – Cassaulet De Toulouse.
For dessert, I was actually quite full so I skipped the dessert menu and went for the apple green tea with a side of honey.
If you are ever in the SF Financial district and need a nice place to have lunch, I recommend Michael Mina’s place.
I will say the menus is relatively limited, but that’s just because the food is always fresh. Anything you order will be true to Michael’s philosophy: bold yet balanced flavors. The staff is incredibly very accommodating, the right amount of friendly and extremely generous.
